The author of five books and many articles, Sanford M. Jacoby holds the Howard Noble Chair. His latest book, The Embedded Corporation: Corporate Governance and Employment Relations in Japan and the United States, compares the policies and practices of human resources executives in Japan and the United States. This study explores whether different varieties of capitalism are becoming more similar as a result of globalization. Other recent research focuses on contemporary employment issues, including research on employees and corporate governance, on high-performance work practices, and on the future of career jobs. Prof. Jacoby is the co-editor of Comparative Labor Law and Policy Journal and serves on the editorial boards of other journals including California Management Review, Enterprise & Society, Industrial Relations, Labor History, and Work & Occupations. Prof. Jacoby holds joint appointments in two UCLA departments: history and public policy. He has been a visiting scholar at Cornell University, Meiji University, and the University of Tokyo.
