Social Science Research Council (SSRC)The Social Science Research Council supports post-doctoral fellowships and faculty research related to Japan in the humanities and social sciences through several programs. SSRC Japan Studies Dissertation WorkshopThe annual SSRC Japan Studies Dissertation Workshop seeks to create a sustained network of advanced graduate students and faculty by providing the opportunity to give and receive critical feedback on dissertations in progress. The annual workshop draws participants from all fields in the social sciences and humanities and from institutions throughout the U.S. The program is funded by the Japan Foundation JSPS Postdoctoral Fellowship Program for ABD's and Recent Ph.D.sThe SSRC administers the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS) Fellowship Program for ABD's and Recent Ph.D.'s Please note: Applications for the short term fellowship will be accepted from applicants who are within 2 years of finishing their Ph.D. degree or have received their Ph.D. within 6 years prior to April 2008. Financial support is provided in yen by the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science, and varies according to the duration of the fellowship term. Abe FellowshipThe Abe Fellowship is designed to encourage multidisciplinary research on contemporary and policy-relevant topics of pressing global concern to industrialized and industrializing societies around the world. The Program administers an annual fellowship competition that provides scholars and non-academic research professionals in the social sciences and the humanities with support for research projects addressing one or more of three themes: global issues, problems common to industrial and industrializing societies, and issues relating to U.S.-Japan relations. Funds are provided by the Japan Foundation Center for Global Partnership.
