Paul I. and Hisako Terasaki Community Outreach Program FundThis fund is designed to promote deeper understanding among members of the Japanese American community of their rich and diverse heritage. Non-profit organizations and qualified individuals are invited to apply for funding to co-sponsor exhibits and public seminars on subjects of broad interest dealing with Japan that will engage the Japanese American community to learn more about their heritage. Applications for funding of up to $5,000 are currently accepted. The application deadline is December 10, 2009 and awards will be announced by March 10, 2010.
Past recipients of funding include: 2008-2009 Donna Ebata, Kodo Arts Sphere America, for “Morisa Komorisa, It’s Just a Lullaby,” a workshop. Akemi Yano, Japanese American National Museum, for “Kokeshi: From Folk Art to Art Toy,” a kokeshi doll exhibit from July through October 2009. 2007-2008 Wendy F. Anderson for "the 7th Annual Cherry Blossom Festival" on April 5-6, 2008 Tim Dang, East West Players, for "Dawns Light: The Journey of Gordon Hirabayashi" Irene Y. Hirano, Contemporary Japanese American National Museum, for "Living Flowers: Ikebana and Art," an exhibit in June-September 2008 Jamie R. Higgins, Earl Burns Miller Japanese Garden, Cal State Long Beach, for "Origami Festival 2008," a community festival for all ages David Spiro, Pacific Asia Museum, for "Mingei: Beauty Meets Function," an exhibit in a continuing series on Japanese Art Keri K. Vogtmann, Temecula Sister City Association, for "The 6th Annual Children's Matsuri," a Japanese-oriented festival to be held on June 1, 2008 2006-2007 Steven M. Hirohama, Assistant Professor, Cerritos College and Owner, Apple Box for "Podcasting Kamishibai: Applying New Technology to a Traditional Japanese Storytelling Medium" Darryl Mori, Japanese American National Museum for "The Role of Media in Building Japanese American and Japanese Relations," a U.S.-Japan symposium to be held at Keidanren Hall, Tokyo in October 2007 Melissa Nishimura, Nikkei Student Union, UCLA for "Nikkei Student Union 21st Annual Cultural Night" on February 19, 2007 David, Spiro, Pacific Asia Museum for "The Religious Art of Japan," an exhibit May 10 - November 4, 2007 Keri Kurokawa Vogtmann and Susan Kiyoko Osuna, Temecula Sister City Association for "The 5th Annual Children's Matsuri," a family-oriented Japanese festival scheduled on June 9, 2007 Download file: Date Posted: 11/3/2009 |
