Startalk/NHLRC Online Heritage Teacher Workshop

This project has created an online, comprehensive mini-course that can be used by heritage language teachers for self-study.

Project Leaders: Olga Kagan and Kaya Mentesoglu (UCLA)

In 2010 in collaboration with NFLC’s STARTALK we produced an online workshop for heritage language teachers. The material on this website includes definitions and profiles of heritage students, the impact these personal and linguistic histories have on classroom instruction, and pedagogical strategies for meeting the ensuing challenges. In particular, differentiated instruction and assessment within the heritage classroom are discussed. Further material will be added to the workshop in order to create a comprehensive mini-course that can be used by teachers for self-study, in workshops, and pre-service and in-service methods courses.
