A Handbook for Study Abroad Programs for Heritage Language Students
This project’s outcome will be a handbook for study abroad centers that informs them of heritage language students’ needs before and during study abroad.
Project Leader: Olga Kagan (UCLA)
This project involves the study of overseas experiences of heritage language learners by the directors of Overseas Language Flagship programs in Korean, Hindi, Chinese, Persian, Arabic, and Russian. Research has been conducted on study abroad experiences and the resulting gains for foreign language learners, but no research has examined in-country experiences of heritage learners. The project’s outcome will be an e-handbook for study abroad centers and home institutions, with information about heritage students’ needs before and during study abroad.
