L.A. Language Intensives

Arabic 8: Elementary Standard Arabic (15 units)
M-F 9:00-1:00

Instruction in the Arabic writing system and its pronunciation, followed by training in speaking, listening, reading, and writing. This course covers units 1 through 10 of Alif Baa and unit 1 to approximately unit 15 of Al-Kitaab Part 1. (15 units)

Arabic 102ABC: Intermediate Standard Arabic (15 units)
M-F 9:00-1:00

Review of elementary skills, followed by training in speaking, listening, reading, writing, and translation. This course covers units 16 through 20 of Al-Kitaab Part 1, and unit 1 to approximately unit 5 of Al-Kitaab Part 2. (15 units)

Arabic 103ABC: Advanced Standard Arabic (12 units)
M-F 9:00-1:00

Review of intermediate skills, followed by training in speaking, listening, reading, writing, and translation. This course covers units 6 through 10 of Al-Kitaab Part 2, followed by an overall grammar review, and selections of authentic Arabic reading and media materials. (15 units)

The Intensive Summer Arabic Program at UCLA offers the equivalent of one year of instruction in only nine weeks. The Program offers training in Modern Standard (Formal) Arabic at the beginning, intermediate, and advanced levels. The program introduces students to aspects of Arab culture through lectures, social events, and field trips.

Arabic 111ABC: Elementary Spoken Egyptian Arabic (12 units)
M-F 9:00-1:00

Introduction to spoken Arabic dialect of Egypt. Training in listening, speaking, and reading.

Language Intensives in L.A. is organized by the UCLA Center for World Languages at the International Institute and UCLA Summer Sessions with support from the UC Consortium for Language Learning and Teaching, the UCLA African Studies Center, and various language departments.
