African Languages 29abc: Elementary Igbo (12 units)

Learn about the Igbo people, their culture and language, enough to enable you to handle your needs adequately if you travel to southeastern Nigeria or neighboring Cameroon or interact with the growing Igbo diaspora in major U.S. cities. Nigeria consists of a population of about 140 million comprising more than 250 ethnic groups, each with their own distinctive language. About 18% of the population speaks Igbo, one of the three largest Nigerian languages. The course will teach students to speak, read, write, and listen to Igbo as well as to communicate in culturally appropriate ways. Guest speakers, field trips, films, and cultural activities will round out your introduction to Igbo culture. (12 units)

The Intensive Igbo Program at UCLA offers the equivalent of one year of instruction in only 7 weeks.

All UCLA students can enroll in this course using URSA.
