African Languages 15: Intensive Elementary Swahili (12 units)

Unlock the culture of East Africa by studying Swahili, the region’s most widely spoken language. In eight weeks, students will learn the equivalent of an academic year (equivalent to courses 1A, 1B, 1C). The course will be heavily supplemented by intensive exposure to Swahili-language media through online material. Participants can also look forward to social occasions where they will practice their new-found language skills.  In one summer, students will build a strong foundation in the major language of Tanzania, Kenya, and Uganda.

The Intensive Summer Amharic Program at UCLA offers the equivalent of one year of instruction in only eight weeks.

All UCLA students can enroll in this course using URSA.
All other students can enroll in this course here.

Language Intensives in L.A. is organized by the UCLA Center for World Languages and UCLA Summer Sessions with support from the UC Consortium for Language Learning and Teaching, the UCLA African Studies Center, UCLA Departments of Near Eastern Languages & Cultures, Linguistics, Slavic Languages, and Spanish & Portuguese.
