African Languages 55 ABC: Elementary Tigrinya (12 units)

Tigrinya, the national language of Eritrea, is a Semitic language spoken in the Eritrean Highlands and Northern Ethiopia. Spoken by over 5 million people around the world, Tigrinya is the fourth most widely spoken Semitic language in the world, and the third most spoken language in Ethiopia.  It has its own script derived from the ancient language Ge'ez, now only used in the Orthodox Church. (12 units)

The Intensive Summer Tigrinya Program at UCLA offers the equivalent of one year of instruction in only eight weeks.

Language Intensives in L.A. is organized by the UCLA Center for World Languages and UCLA Summer Sessions with support from the UC Consortium for Language Learning and Teaching, the UCLA African Studies Center, UCLA Departments of Near Eastern Languages & Cultures, Linguistics, Slavic Languages, and Spanish & Portuguese.
