Russ' Celebration of Life

On March 30, 2003, the world of  Teaching English as a Second Language (TESL) and Applied  Linguistics lost one of its most beloved and admired figures.  Professor Russell N. Campbell --  or Russ, as he liked to be called -- died at his home in Los Angeles after a brave battle with colon cancer.  

Rather than focusing on the sorrow of losing Russ, we believe that Russ would have preferred us to celebrate his life and achievements. This website was created with this purpose in mind. We would like to recognize Russ' many achievements and the long-lasting marks that he has left in the heart of everyone who knew him.  

Russ touched many people throughout his life and career. He was a teacher, innovator, mentor, and most importantly, he was an inspiration.   We hope that through this website, Russ' spirit will continue to inspire the next generation of TESL professionals and applied linguists.

 


A memorial fund has been established in honor of Russ.  Those who wish to contribute should send a check payable to the UC Regents to:
