June 2015Alumnus Thomas Wu Hosts UCLA Delegation

Thomas Wu (UCLA MBA 1975) graciously hosted the delegation for an intimate meeting during which the future of UCLA in Taiwan was discussed, with a number of innovative ideas presented for amplifying the university's presence there. Strong industry connections were mentioned as potential sources for cultivating future UCLA students from Taiwan.

June 2015Alumnus Mark Huang Gives Taiwan Alumni Club Updates

Dedicated alum Mark Huang (UCLA PhD 1983) gave updates on the Taiwan Alumni Club, which serves alumni from all UCLA schools. The club is registered with the government as an official entity, which benefits alumni members, and gathers regularly for meetings and symposia when UCLA faculty and administrators visit Taipei.

June 2015Delegation Meets with Alumna and CEO of Cyberlink Alice Chang

Chancellor Block met with alumni Alice Chang (UCLA MBA 1988) and Jau Huang (UCLA MS 1985, PhD 1988) to speak about their new business venture: a wireless app that shows women images of themselves wearing different shades and types of makeup. The meeting gave the Chancellor an excellent opportunity to build his relationship with two important prospects for the UCLA Global Centennial Campaign Committee.

The UCLA Global Forum in Taipei featured panel speakers — experts in the fields of education, social science, technology and industry —speaking about recent innovations in research and teaching in their respective fields, as well as the increasing need for disciplines to work together in today's interconnected world. The panel discussion was followed by a campus update and lively networking reception.

June 2015Taipei Dinner Hosted by Shirley Wang

Shirley Wang (UCLA 1990) hosted a dinner for alumni and friends of UCLA in Taipei, at which a distinguished group of Taiwanese advised the delegation on UCLA's relationship with Taiwan and Taiwanese students, parents, and alumni. The group was enthusiastic about the new UCLA Global Forum series and encouraged the delegation to continue and expand the series in coming years.

June 2015Delegation Attends Taipei Dragon Boat Races

Li Cheng Chan (UCLA MS 2004, PhD 2010) led an enthusiastic afternoon of cultural immersion at the Dragon Boat races, where the UCLA delegation watched dragon boat teams race and listened to singers. The delegation even had the opportunity to take part in festive activities, such as balancing an egg and wearing jasmine sachet necklaces.

November 2013Honoring UCLA Alumni in Taipei

On July 5, 2013, Chancellor Block hosted a UCLA reception event for UCLA alumni, current and incoming students, and parents in Taipei. The event was held at the Taipei American Club and was attended by approximately 70 people.

November 2013Meeting with National Taiwan University President Yang Pan-Chyr

Chancellor Block met with President YANG Pan-Chyr of National Taiwan University (NTU) and discussed potential areas of collaboration, including faculty and student exchanges and joint research. UCLA is proud to have more than 60 Bruins currently serving on the NTU faculty.

November 2013UCLA Strengthens Government Relations in Taiwan

In Taipei, Chancellor Block met with Taiwan's President MA Ying-Jeou, as well as Political Deputy Minister of Education HUANG Pi-Twan, and Minster of Culture LUNG Ying-Tai.
