2009 Im Conference of Korean Christianity

"Issues of the History of Christianity in Korea-U.S. and Korea-Canada Relations"
April 17-18, 2009

The Dongsoon Im and Mija Im Korean Christianity Program of UCLA Center for Korean Studies is happy to announce their annual conference to be held on April 17-18, 2009 at UCLA.

Its topic is the issues of the history of Korean Christianity in the encounters of the West and Korea, especially the US-Korea and Canada-Korea relations. The proposals on the issues of nationalism and transnationalism, colonialism and post-colonialism, theological influence, social movements, youth culture, cultural exchanges, education, medicine, literature and journalism, and immigration are welcomed.

Please submit a proposal to Sung-Deuk Oak at by January 20, 2009.
All proposals must include: (1) 300-500 word abstract, (2) one-page CV, including full contact information.

Graduate students' proposals are encouraged to be submitted.

Please refer to the topics that had been discussed at the previous conferences at the Center's website, (event archive) and to the book, Christianity in Korea (Honolulu: University of Hawaii Press, 2005), which is a collection of the papers presented at the conferences.

The 6-8 presenters will be selected and notified by January 25. They need to submit the final full draft of the paper by March 25. Several discussants will be invited for the discussion sessions. The papers will be bounded into a booklet and will be considered for future publication.

The Center will provide the presenters with domestic roundtrip airplane tickets, 2-3 nights hotel accommodation, and an honorarium.
