Description
* The University of California awards approximately 20-25 President's Postdoctoral Fellowships every year. Each fellowship is for one academic year, beginning July 1, with renewal for a second year pending demonstration of satisfactory progress.
* In addition to financial support, the fellowships include mentorship and guidance in areas critical to success in an academic career, such as research, writing, and public speaking.
* Fellowships are awarded for research conducted under faculty and laboratory sponsorship on any of the University of California's nine campuses and three laboratories.
Stipend
* Fellows will receive an annual stipend of $28,000-$29,000, depending on discipline and experience. The program also offers health benefits and up to $4,000 for researching expenses.
* Fellowships may be supplemented by campus or department awards, and such supplements are encouraged. Stipends and allowances for fellows to the laboratories may vary.

December 1, 1999- Application deadline.

It is the applicant's responsibility to:
* Obtain the sponsorship of a University of California faculty or laboratory sponsor, other than the applicant's Ph.D. thesis advisor, who is willing to serve as mentor. See the mentor form for information regarding the mentor's role. If assistance is needed in identifying a mentor, please call the Program Office.
* Distribute the mentor and three reference forms (one to the Ph.D. thesis advisor) and request that they be returned directly to the Program Office before the deadline.
* Have two copies of an official certificate of completion of the Ph.D. degree, other terminal degree, or graduate transcript mailed directly to the Program Office before the deadline.
* Include sample publications or unpublished research papers with the application.
* Type name and address on the enclosed labels and return.
* Mail two copies of all application materials to:
