Tenure track appointment in Asian History Academic year 2006-07

RESPONSIBILITIES: Contractual responsibilities are equivalent to seven (7) courses per year. The typical teaching load is six (6) courses of teaching and one (1) course reassigned for dedicated work with students. The six-course annual teaching load (21-22 hours) alternates upper division courses in modern China and modern Japan, with upper division courses in open areas of Asian/Asian diaspora history. Candidates are also expected to teach the lower division world history on a rotating basis. All faculty regularly participate in our two core liberal arts programs, the Collegiate Seminar Great Books Program and the January Term, undertake student advising, serve on committees, and engage in scholarly activity.

QUALIFICATIONS: Ph.D. by August 2006; strong background in modern China and modern Japan; ability to teach specialized upper-division China/Japan, Asian diaspora, or other Asian history courses; exposure to world history; recent experience teaching Asian history to undergraduates and a commitment to continuing scholarship. Promotion and tenure are based upon teaching effectiveness, scholarly achievement, and participation in departmental and college service activities.

SALARY/BENEFITS: Salary range for the 2004-05 academic year is $52,000 to $60,000 with increase expected for the 2005-2006 academic year.
