Buddhist Scholar Robert Thurman to Speak Nov. 5

The UCLA Center for Buddhist Studies sponsors lecture on Tibetan tradition.

One of Time magazine's 25 most influential Americans in 1997, Robert Thurman, professor of Buddhist studies at Columbia University, will address the role of Tibetan Buddhist art, science and religion in academia and in the culture at large. His lecture will take place Monday, Nov. 5, from 4 to 5 p.m. at the Charles E. Young Grand Salon in UCLA's Kerkhoff Hall.

Thurman studied Tibetan Buddhism for almost 30 years as a personal student of the Dalai Lama and became the first American to be ordained as a Tibetan Buddhist monk. He is president of the American Institute of Buddhist Studies and of the Tibet House U.S.
