The purpose of this research is to analyze the viability for Argentina of a Free Trade Agreement (FTA) between the Southern Common Market (Mercosur) and the Republic of Korea, taking into account the results and perspectives of the FTA that Chile and South Korea signed four years ago. Since this FTA has had an expansive effect on trade between both countries due to the complementariness of their economies, the hypothesis that guides this investigation is that the proposed FTA between the Asian power and Mercosur pursues the reproduction of a similar scheme for Argentina. In order to clarify this affirmation, the specific objectives of this work are to describe the principal characteristics of these economies, to analyze the trade policies implemented by them, to evaluate the trade changes between Korea and Chile, and to study the viability and impact for Argentina of an FTA between Korea and Mercosur, based on the preceding evaluation.
