Dear Colleagues:
Many of you have had the chance to discuss informally with me the strategic planning report I submitted to the Executive Vice Chancellor in May. As I indicated at that time, my report was the product of a lengthy process that began with the appointment of the faculty Strategic Planning Committee and its Administrative Sub-Committee in September 2001. I am pleased to let you know that my report to the EVC, as well as the two committee reports to me, are now available for your perusal.
The process of implementing our strategic plan has already begun, but it will no doubt take us much of the summer to complete. We will publicly launch the UCLA International Institute at the beginning of the fall. In the interim, I look forward very much to working with all of you to build on your considerable achievements to date.
I would also like to take this opportunity to thank you all for helping to make my first year at UCLA so enjoyable, and to wish you a happy and productive summer.
Geoff Garrett
Vice Provost
