  4. Vary values (dark to light by the addition of water)

 PROCEDURES:

  1. View video, Watercolor Materials & Basic Techniques: Crystal Productions
  2. Draw rough draft using inspiration by not necessarily copying photo image. Artists choose to include sections, rearrange images, "zoom in", eliminate some details.
  3. Practice ( on watercolor paper or heavy drawing paper) various techniques.
  4. Lightly sketch basic drawing on watercolor paper.
  5. Paint - allow some areas to dry completely before adding more color (the paper will only absorb so much water and therefore, color)

INSPIRATION & THEMES:

    • Items with images of Dragons
    • Photos of Landscapes, Gardens and Rural Areas
    • Textiles and Asian designs
    • Scroll & Screens from China, Korea and Japan
    • Figures, images of people in traditional dress

VARIATIONS:

1. Outline shape of object in wax (white crayon) before painting background.

2. Using extra fine black marker to trace basic shapes of original drawing, outlining any changes in color or variations in values of watercolor and adding details or texture.

3. Draw in crayon, pressing hard, outlining images, adding texture or filling in shapes before painting over composition with water colors.
