Alhaji Atiku Abubakar is an entrepreneur, a former Deputy Director of the Nigerian Customs and Excise Department, and a current member of the administration of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. The Obasanjo/Abubakar administration will complete its second term in 2007. According to his bio, "...Vice President Abubakar is poised to continue the economic development, political stability, peace and security which the current administration has institutionalized."
Alhaji Abubakar is a sponsor and member of the finance committee of the World Constitution and Parliament Association; he is also a member of "World Citizens" based in France. These organizations promote world peace and understanding.
Alhaji Abubakar was born in Jada, Adamawa State, Nigeria, on November 25, 1946. He attended the Adamawa Provincial Secondary School, Yola, from 1960 to 1965. In 1967, he entered Ahmadu Bello University; he graduated with a Diploma in Law. In 1969 he joined the Nigerian Customs and Excise Department and rose to the rank of Deputy Director by the time he retired in 1989. In his 20-year career with the Department, he received several professional training opportunities in Leadership, Management and Drug Enforcement in Egypt, the United States, and Finland. He was the chairman of seven companies before his election as the Vice President of Nigeria.
