SPICMACAY - UCLA is proud to present a Santoor concert and lecture demonstration by Pandit Tarun Bhattacharya with percussion support by Abhishek Basu on the Tabla.
About the art form being demonstrated:
The santoor is an Indian musical instrument which is trapezoid-shaped hammered dulcimer often made of
walnut, with seventy strings. The special-shaped mallets (mezrab) are lightweight and are held between the
index and middle fingers. A typical santoor has two sets of bridges, providing a range of three octaves. Read

Hindustani Classical Music is a North Indian classical music tradition that has been evolving from the 12th
century AD onwards. The tradition was born out of a cultural synthesis from several musical streams: the vedic
chant tradition dating back to approx. one millennia BCE[1], the equally ancient Persian tradition of Musiqi-e
