Professor Sinopoli’s anthropological work in India has encompassed research on two significant eras. One of these projects encompasses the medieval period and specifically the subject of the Vijanayagar kingdom (The political economy of craft production: crafting empire in South India, c. 1350-1650, Cambridge University Press 2003; and The Vijayanagara Metropolitan Survey co-authored with Kathleen Morrison, University of Michigan 2007). Her current research project looks at the time period preceding the phase of kingdoms in South India, in which the first communities were forming and expressing their collective social organizations through elaborate funerary megaliths.
