Kate Teltscher is Reader in English Literature at Roehampton University in London. She is the author of India Inscribed: European and British Writing on India 1600-1800 (Oxford University Press, 1995) and The High Road to China: George Bogle, The Panchen Lama and the First British Expedition to Tibet (Farrar, Straus & Giroux, 2006) which has been short-listed for the James Tait Black Memorial Prize for Biography. She is currently working on Hobson-Jobson, the great ninteenth-century Anglo-Indian glossary.
Dr. Teltscher will present a talk on "The Rubicon between the Empires: The River Oxus in Nineteenth-century British Geographical Imagination" at the Program on Central Asia conference, The Roads to Oxiana: The Writing of Travel at the Crossroads of Asia on November 9.
