His research interests center on the political economy of state building in the Middle East. His dissertation, tentatively entitled "Social Conflict and State Building in Lebanon, 1946-1970," explores elite and popular struggles over the nature of state-market relations in the wake of independence. Ziad is also a member of Quilting Point, a film production team working on a documentary series that deals with the contentious topic of "Arabs and Terrorism."
