Description:

In anticipation of the 2026 FIFA World Cup—hosted across the United States, Mexico, and Canada—this three‑day professional development series invites K–12 educators to explore the deep cultural, historical, and social significance of soccer in Latin America. Held over two days online and one day in person on the UCLA campus, the program examines soccer as a transnational practice that links Latin America with migrant communities throughout the United States.
Through interdisciplinary conversations, leading scholars will share research that highlights how soccer moves across borders, shaping diasporic identities, collective memories, and forms of political expression. From local barrios and migrant leagues to professional clubs and national teams, participants will gain insight into the sport’s role in community-building, storytelling, and contemporary life.
Designed for educators seeking meaningful ways to bring Latin America into the classroom, this series offers rich content, ready-to-use ideas, and a dynamic learning community. We welcome teachers of all subjects and grade levels to join us.
