ALEXANDER VON HUMBOLDT FOUNDATION RESEARCH FELLOWSHIPS

Up to 600 fellowships are granted annually to postdoctoral scholars interested in conducting their own research projects in Germany. Scholarships are awarded for 6-12 months with possible extensions of up to 24 months. Monthly stipends range from $2,580 to $3,690. Additional support is available for travel, accompanying spouses, health insurance, and language courses. Must be under the age of 40 and hold a PhD or equivalent degree. A good command of the German language is required for scholars in the humanities and social sciences. Decisions are made exclusively on the basis of academic achievement.

DAAD - GRADUATE SCHOLARSHIP FOR STUDY/RESEARCH IN GERMANY

Study Scholarships are awarded to highly qualified graduating seniors and graduate students of all disciplines to provide the opportunity to study in Germany, or complete a postgraduate or Master's degree course and obtain a degree from a German higher education institution. Research Grants are awarded primarily to highly qualified PhD candidates and post-doc researchers for research or a course of study and training at universities or other institutes in Germany. Monthly stipend of approximately $600. In addition, DAAD will pay for health insurance and travel costs. Applicants should be US or Canadian citizens. Graduate students should be enrolled full-time, PhD candidates should have all but the dissertation completed, and post-doctoral applicants must have completed their PhD no more than two years prior to applying. DAAD - PROGRAM FOR INTERNATIONAL LAWYERS

Up to 20 awards offered to young lawyers to gain unique insight into the structure and function of German law during an 8 month program in Germany. In addition to tuition and fees, the program provides a monthly stipend of 975 Euros, a start-up allowance , a travel subsidy, and health insurance. Up to 12 dissertation and postdoctoral fellowships to encourage comparative and interdisciplinary study of economic, political, and social aspects of modern and contemporary German and European affairs. Awards are for 10 to 12 months. Stipends are EUR 1100 per month for fellows working on dissertation and EUR 1400 per month for fellows working on postdoctoral research. The Centro de Estudios Polticos y Constitucionales (Madrid) is offering three-year postdoctoral residential fellowships in Public Law and Political Science for scholars who have defended their Ph.D since Jan. 31, 2001 (or 2000 for individuals with circumstances warranting an extension, e.g., maternity leave). Candidates should prove that they have spent at least 12 months in a research institution different to the one awarding the doctorate degree. Fellowships support postdoctoral study in the Soviet Union or its Successor States. Provides 2 years of summer support plus 1 semester free of teaching obligations. Stipend of $24,000. Open only to U.S. citizens or permanent residents. Must have earned a PhD in the last 8 years, or expect to earn one by February, and be untenured.

SSRC - EURASIA PROGRAM

Predoctoral and postdoctoral fellowships are available to support two consecutive years of training in Eurasia area studies. Eurasia program covers Eastern Europe, the Russian Empire, and the Soviet Union and its Successor States. Awards range from $3,000-$20,000 depending on their stages of their graduate careers. Open only to U.S. citizens or permanent residents. Postdoctoral fellows must be within the first five years of having received their PhD and who have no more than three years experience in a tenure-track position.

STANFORD UNIVERSITY - HUMANITIES FELLOWS PROGRAM

Up to six fellowships awarded to highly promising scholars-teachers in the humanities. Two year award with department affiliation, limited teaching duties, and opportunity for scholarly work. The award may be renewed for a third year. Carries an annual stipend of approximately $52,000. Open to the following fields: Asian Languages, Comparative Literature, French and Italian, German Studies Linguistics, Slavic Languages and Literatures, Spanish and Portuguese. Must have received PhD within the last three years.

WOODROW WILSON CENTER EAST EUROPEAN STUDIES RESEARCH

Grants (2-4 months) to scholars whose research focuses on East Europe and who have a particular need for the library, archival, and other specialized resources of the Washington, D.C. area. Limited to American citizens (or permanent residents) in the early stages of their academic careers (generally before tenure, but after Ph.D) or American scholars whose careers have been interrupted or delayed. Office space at the Wilson Center and a research assistant will be provided whenever possible.
