California-raised, but spent five years studying at the Marseille and Paris locations of the École des Hautes Études en Sciences Sociales (EHESS - The School for Advanced Studies in the Social Sciences). Following in the footsteps of his thesis advisor Marie Mauzé, Andrew's research pertains to the international and domestic repatriation of Native American ceremonial objects. The title of his dissertation is “Voluntary and Involuntary Repatriation: An Ethnography of the International Native American Antique Market.” Since 2013, he has been attending auctions in Paris and other events in the United States involving the circulation of contested indigenous cultural heritage.
