Introduction
The conference Anecdote, Gossip, and Occasion in Traditional China brings together critical analysis of the genre of anecdote with the concepts of gossip and occasion, examining not only how anecdotes are to be understood, but how they are circulated and interpreted within various social networks.
Sponsored by the UCLA Center for Chinese Studies, with major funding and support from the Chiang Ching-kuo Foundation for International Scholarly Exchange and the American Council of Learned Societies.
