Assistant Professor of Cultural Studies and Comparative Literature at the University of Minnesota. Among Professor Chen's research interests are comparative cinemas, film history/theory/practice, Chinese and Asian cinemas, and the interdisciplinary study of visual and media cultures. In his work on film history and visual culture, Professor Chen explores diverging and converging cultural forces. Having worked in both the academic and production side of film, as well as cross-culturally, in his academic work he attempts to connect, and compare, various fields of knowledge production. Among his published work is Good Enough to Eat, a 16mm documentary (1990), and Taiwanese Cinema: Poetics and Politics (Verso, forthcoming).
