Each speaker will tell the story of how the marketization of the Chinese economy of the past two and a half decades has affected the life of one individual that the speaker has encountered in the course of his/her fieldwork in China. The subjects' tales will illuminate the myriad sorts of positive and negative changes, opportunities, and dilemmas that China's move toward capitalism has presented to its populace.
