Professor Lu's talk analyzes the place of the Jia household in the eighteenth-century novel Hong Lou Meng (Dream of the Red Mansion).  In focusing specifically on chapters 119 and 120, Professor Lu discusses why Jai Qiaojie's marriage is as necessary a part of the novel's end as the disappearance of the novel's protagonist, Jia Baoyu.
