Jack W. Chen (Ph.D. in Comparative Literature, Harvard) is assistant professor of East Asian Languages and Literatures at Wellesley College. Professor Chen works on the poetry and intellectual history of early and medieval China, and has written articles and given talks on the history of imperial poetry, politics and religion in China, the metaphor of the body in political thought, and the palace as sovereign representation. He is currently writing a book on the poetry and cultural politics of the second Tang emperor, Taizong. His next project will be on historiography and gossip in the Tang and Song dynasties.
