Richard Gunde, Assistant Director of the Center for Chinese Studies since its inception in 1986, is a UCLA alumnus. He received his bachelor’s degree in 1965 and his master’s degree one year later, both in political science. He was Associate Editor of the journal Modern China for two decades, and Managing Editor of the journal Chinese Science from 1993 to 1998. Currently, Gunde is a contributing editor for the UCLA Asian Pacific Monograph Series. After two years of residence in Japan, Gunde worked for many years in international business before joining UCLA in the Fall of 1986 to help establish the Center for Chinese Studies.
