Summer Language Fellowships of the Center for Chinese Studies, 2012

Fellowships for summer language study, for new and continuing UCLA graduate students

The Center for Chinese Studies announces a competition for fellowships for summer language study.

The awards, which will be based on merit and need, may be used only at intensive summer language programs of known quality.

Applicants must be graduate students in good standing in Ph.D. programs in Chinese studies at UCLA. Outstanding incoming graduate students are also eligible. Awards for Chinese language study will normally be only for the intermediate levels or above. Advanced students who have attained fluency in Chinese may apply for support to begin or continue the study of a second language (e.g., Japanese).

Applications should be submitted on line by April 9, 2012. They should include:

• Plans and justification for summer language study
• A budget
• A statement of purpose, including a review of progress made toward the Ph.D. degree and plans for further study and/or research
• Up-to-date, unofficial transcript
• Two letters of recommendation (to be submitted by the recommenders via the application tool)

The online application tool will ask you to register; you may then immediately fill out and submit an application.

You may review and revise your application anytime before the deadline (April 9, 2011).
