About the South Asian Studies Minor
Introduction to the South Asian Studies minor.

The South Asian Studies minor is designed for students who wish to augment their major with concerted study of the history, culture, society, and languages of South Asia.
South Asia is comprised of Sri Lanka, India, Pakistan, Nepal, Bhutan, Bangladesh, and the Maldives. In certain respects the study of Afghanistan and Myanmar (especially in the period when Burma was under British colonial rule) might legitimately be included under the rubric of South Asian studies.
The minor seeks, through multidisciplinary approaches, to address the history and contemporary importance of South Asia.

Sangam Faculty-Student Luncheon
The International Institute's South Asian Interdepartmental Degree Program seeks to support and promote undergraduate student-led organizations aimed at exposing UCLA students to the South Asian region. This is possible through the sponsorship of events such as the Sangam Faculty-Student Luncheon held on January 15th, 2010 that provided students with the opportunity to connect with faculty in different fields and to learn not only about issues related to South Asia but also about South Asian American community and the South Asian Minor offered at UCLA.

Students sign in for the Sangam Faculty-Student Luncheon and receive information about the South Asian Studies Minor.

Sangam members prepare to serve authentic South Asian cuisine partly sponsored by the Interdepartmental Degree Programs.

Students interact during the luncheon.

Dr. Snehendu Kar from UCLA's School of Public Health addresses the guests.
