The Honorable Dan Meridor, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Intelligence and Atomic Energy
Born in Jerusalem towards the end of the British Mandate (in 1947), Dan Meridor studied law at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, were he gained his LL.B. A longtime member of the Likud party, in the late 1990s he became one of the founders of the Centre Party, along with colleagues from Likud and from the Labor Party. He has held the positions of Minister of Justice and Minister of Finance in previous governments, before taking on his current position as Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Intelligence and Atomic Energy. In addition to his ministerial posts, Meridor has also served as international chair of the Jerusalem Foundation-an international non-profit organization whose goal is the improvement of the quality of life for all citizens of Jerusalem, where he resides. Meridor was also a member of the Winograd Commission, which investigated Israel's actions in the 2006 Lebanon War.
