Duncan Thomas (Economics) works on the family and family decision-making.
In Central Java, Indonesia, he is implementing a random assignment intervention in
which half the study population receive a nutrition supplement and the
other half receive a placebo. The study subjects are followed for four
years in order to measure the causal impact of health changes on social
and economic prosperity. He is also working on understanding the longer
term impacts of the 2004 Indian Ocean tsunami on the health and economic
well-being of the populations living in coastal Aceh and North Sumatra, Indonesia.
