Join us for a screening of Saravá Shalom, a poetic documentary exploring dialogue among Afro-Brazilian, Indigenous, and Jewish mystical traditions. The film follows André Feitosa, an artist from Northern Brazil who discovers that his family descends from enslaved Africans, Indigenous people, and Jews who were converted during the Inquisition. The film travels from sacred mountains in southern Brazil to the backlands of the Northeast, from a spiritist Jewish center in Rio de Janeiro to historic Inquisition sites in Portugal.

The screening will feature director Alex Minkin, a visual anthropologist and cultural activist whose research focuses on the intersections between Jewish and Brazilian cultures. The event will be moderated by Andréa Kogan of Pontifícia Universidade Católica de São Paulo.
