Many consider Nigeria the heartland of West African music—Highlife, Jùjú, and Yoruba dance music are just a few of the popular styles that developed in the country. The music of Cuba, Haiti, Brazil, and New Orleans owe a huge debt to the traditions of West and Central Africa.
Join KCRW’s Tom Schnabel for a conversation (plus plenty of great sample tracks!) exploring the contemporary face of Nigerian music, its complex roots and international acclaim. Schnabel is joined by Viola Galloway of Amoeba Records, KPFK DJ Nnamdi Moweta, and DJ and music producer Ade James.
