Alexandra Lieben is the Deputy Director of the Ronald W. Burkle Center for International Relations and Lecturer in the Undergraduate Program in Public Affairs at the UCLA Luskin School of Public Affairs. A certified mediator, she teaches constructive communication, alternative dispute resolution, public dialogue, cultural competency, international conflict resolution, and community and economic development to undergraduate and graduate students at UCLA. In addition to her role at the Burkle Center, Alexandra Lieben has also served as a faculty advisor on social impact projects for UCLA Anderson’s Applied Management Research Program.

For the past eight years, she has taught seminars in crisis prevention, crisis de-escalation, constructive communication, multi-stakeholder conflict resolution, community development, and cultural competency for executives and managers of public safety and public sector agencies, from law enforcement to fire, EMS, public health, as well as non-profits, local, state, and federal agencies.

Her experience working across cultures and helping people negotiate their interests began during her career in the music- and film industry. For years, she worked internationally with different stakeholder groups, mediating conflicts, advocating in multiple languages for people’s rights and bridging divides to attain shared goals while helping realize large-scale concert- and film productions.

Alexandra Lieben holds a M.A. in Public Policy with specializations in conflict resolution, international- and labor policy from UCLA and graduated summa cum laude from UCLA with a B.A. in Sociology.
