About the Talk

Professor Dov Waxman will discuss American Jews, Israel and Anti-Semitism in the Trump Era at an event co-sponsored by the UCLA Y&S Nazarian Center for Israel Studies and the Rabbi Chaim Seidler-Feller Institute for Jewish Learning at UCLA Hillel. Also, Waxman will speak about the American Jewish community's diverse - and sometimes contradictory views - about Israel.


About the Speaker

Professor Dov Waxman is the Director of the UCLA Y&S Nazarian Center for Israel Studies and The Rosalinde and Arthur Gilbert Foundation Chair in Israel Studies. Before joining UCLA in January 2020, he was the Stotsky Professor of Jewish Historical and Cultural Studies at Northeastern University, and a professor of Political Science, International Affairs, and Israel Studies. He also previously directed Northeastern University’s Middle East Studies program and co-directs its Middle East Center.

Dr. Waxman received his Ph.D. from the School of Advanced International Studies of Johns Hopkins University. He has previously taught at the City University of New York, Bowdoin College, and the Middle East Technical University in Ankara, Turkey. He has also been a visiting fellow at Tel Aviv University, Bar-Ilan University, the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, and Oxford University.

Waxman's research has focused on the Israel-Palestine conflict, Israeli foreign policy, U.S.-Israel relations, and Diaspora Jewry’s relationship with Israel. He is the author of The Pursuit of Peace and the Crisis of Israeli Identity: Defending / Defining the Nation (Palgrave, 2006); Israel’s Palestinians: The Conflict Within (with Ilan Peleg, Cambridge University Press, 2011); and Trouble in the Tribe: The American Jewish Conflict over Israel (Princeton University Press, 2016). His latest book is The Israeli-Palestinian Conflict: What Everyone Needs to Know (Oxford University Press, 2019).
