This talk will cover one of the objectives of this work which is to discuss the place of Joaquim Maria Machado de Assis as writer of the Americas from of theoretical reflections on modernism Latin American -that is, modernism in Spanish-, in order to examine the possible dialogue of his work with that of contemporaries such as Rubén Darío or José Martí and to rethink its specificity within the Latin American canon.
