The Amazon basin is home to up to 80,000 distinct species of plants. In recent years, some of these have become popular globally due to their mind-altering qualities. This panel will take a look at the stories behind the dissemination of three of these: guarana, ayahuasca, and coca. These three global commodities now encapsulate significant new forms of regional development from spiritual tourism to large scale deforestation.
