We are pleased to welcome Rómulo Bustos Aguirre, winner of the 2019 National Colombian Poetry Prize and one of the most outstanding contemporary poets writing in Spanish.
In this event, we will celebrate the publication of Semantics of The World, the first compilation of Rómulo’s poems published in English (University of New Mexico Press), which has been praised as “an exquisite translation of one of the most important Afro-Colombian poets writing today”.
We will be joined by translators Nohora Arrieta Fernández (UCLA) and Mark Sanders (University of Notre Dame). Rómulo, Nohora, and Mark will discuss their collaboration and read a selection of poems, alongside members of the Department of Spanish & Portuguese.
