Applying to the Graduate Program

Information regarding application and financial assistance.

 

 

 

Note that the African Studies graduate program offers a Master's degree (M.A.) only.  There is no PhD in African Studies offered at UCLA.

General admissions information, instructions about applying, and the online application for admission can be found at UCLA’s Graduate Division Website.

The deadline to apply to the African Studies interdepartmental graduate program for the 2009-10 academic year (beginning Fall Quarter 2010) is December 15, 2009.

To keep in mind when applying to the African Studies Program:

  • Your statement of purpose should describe academic, Africa related and/or professional experience
  • GRE scores should be sent from ETS to UCLA African Studies using the Institution Code R4837
  • The African Studies Program receives a high volume of supplementary material during admissions season. There may be a delay in reflecting our receipt of your admissions documents in the online admissions portal. (We thank you for your patience!)
