In the study of history, there is a field called historiography. It focuses on what history is in writing and how to write history. Updating historiography has created new types of histories such as oral history, micro history, gender history, people's history, and public history. In other words, Historiography is an important issue for understanding what history is. In this colloquium, Professor Youngnam Lee will talk about the History Workshop called ‘Archival Symposium’ that he has managed. Everyone has their own history and this is a workshop for writing everyone’s own history. It is necessary to write your own history while carefully observing the time you have lived.
History Workshop began in 2008 and many different people have participated in history workshops. There have been high school students and college students in school that have participated, along with farmers, urban workers, women, seniors, the disabled, activists, immigrants(Korean Americans), and suicide survivors. They talked to each other and wrote their own histories. There was sorrow and pleasure. They listened seriously and talked in a trembling voice. Listening was an act of writing history. They were their own historians.
He will introduce some impressive examples such as Korean Americans workshop in Los Angeles, seniors workshop, the disabled workshop, and suicide survivors workshop in Korea. This time will be an opportunity to think about your own history.
