Scholarship and Activism in Times of Precarity: Panel Discussion
Tuesday, May 21, 2024

Moore Hall, Rm 3304 and online
12:00 p.m.–2:00 p.m. PDT

We are living in a time of great uncertainty, with rising disputes over truth due to social media and “fake news,” alongside threats to democratic freedoms. This raises questions about the role of educators in addressing these challenges, the link between our academic work and societal change and how educators in the Global North can address global issues while respecting diverse contexts.

Part of the UCLA International Institute's "Democracy, Freedom and Truth Initiative," this panel discussion features UCLA faculty members engaged in scholarly activism. Following the discussion, moderator Ramy El-Etreby will facilitate a participatory theatre workshop for a limited number of student audience members.
