Iraq: Assessing the Options

The UCLA International Institute and the Burkle Center for International Relations will host a public forum at UCLA on October 16 to explore the issues involved in the emerging U.S. foreign policy about Iraq.

"Iraq: Assessing the Options," brings together commentators, Middle East analysts, and UCLA faculty in a discussion about the politics of these policies, their impact on America's standing in the international community, and the potential consequences of attacking Iraq.

There is no admission charge for this program.  Parking on the UCLA campus costs $7.

 Participants in the program include:

• Geoffrey Garrett (moderator), vice provost of the UCLA International Institute, and Director of the Burkle Center for International Relations.
• Dennis Ross, currently the director of the Washington Institute for Near East Policy, formerly special Middle East coordinator during the Clinton Administration, and also the former director of the State Department's Policy Planning during the Bush Administration.
• Joyce Appleby, UCLA Professor Emerita of History and past president of the American Historical Society.  Appleby, a renowned historian and commentator on historical issues, is the author of "Telling the Truth About History."
• Arianna Huffington, nationally syndicated columnist, author, and television commentator.
• Amy Zegart, UCLA Professor of Public Policy, and author of "Flawed By Design: The Evolution of the CIA, JCS and NSC."
• Richard Riordan, former Mayor of Los Angeles and Republican candidate for Governor
