Ways of Seeing: A Live Online Walkthrough of an Adivasi Visual Archive from Jharkhand, India

Join a live, guided tour of Ways of Seeing, a digital archive built with and about Adivasi (Indigenous) communities in the Kolhan region of Jharkhand, India. Rather than a lecture, this online session opens the archive on screen and walks through it together: photographs, films, and community media; how the collection is organized; and the choices behind who is seen, who speaks, and who decides how images circulate. Arpit Gaind will show how the site was built, what it means to design a digital archive around Indigenous media sovereignty, and how students can use open digital tools in their own research and creative work.

The session runs about 40 minutes, followed by an open Q&A. Students interested in Indigenous studies, South Asia, film and media, anthropology, archives, and digital humanities are especially welcome.
