In the book, Professor Lustick argues that a two-state solution to the Israeli–Palestinian conflict is no longer possible, and that its demoralized supporters must finally accept this and turn their attention to gradually improving the one-state reality that currently exists in Israel, the West Bank and Gaza Strip. Dr. Ian S. Lustick, holds the Bess W. Heyman Chair in the Political Science Department of the University of Pennsylvania. He teaches Middle Eastern politics, comparative politics, and computer modeling. He is the author of numerous books, including Arabs in the Jewish State (University of Texas Press, 1980); For the Land and the Lord (Council on Foreign Relations, 1988, 1994); Unsettled States, Disputed Lands (Cornell University Press, 1993); Trapped in the War on Terror (University of Pennsylvania Press, 2006). He received his Ph.D. and M.A. from the University of California, Berkeley, and he has received awards from the Carnegie Corporation, the National Science Foundation, the National Endowment for the Humanities, and the Social Sciences Research Council. He is a past president of the Association for Israel Studies, and of the Politics and History Section of the American Political Science Association.
