About the 2023 Conference

Israel and the New World DisOrder is a virtual conference on Israel’s place in today’s global arena, organized jointly by Haaretz newspaper and the UCLA Y&S Nazarian Center for Israel Studies. Building on the success of our previous joint conference in 2021, which focused on Israeli national security, this year’s conference will touch on Israel’s foreign policy challenges, strategies, and opportunities. Among the speakers will be top policy makers, analysts and experts from Israel and around the world. The topics discussed will range from Iran’s nuclear program to the war in Ukraine, and from China’s growing footprint in the Middle East to Israel’s ties with neighboring Arab countries.

Haaretz is Israel’s paper of record and the oldest, continuously published newspaper in the country. Based in Tel Aviv, it is often described as the Israeli equivalent of the New York Times, devoted to accurate, fearless and independent reporting and to the protection of democratic values in Israel.

The UCLA Y&S Nazarian Center for Israel Studies is an interdisciplinary academic center that promotes the study of the history, society, politics and culture of modern Israel. The Center supports teaching, research and educational programs, and is part of the UCLA International Institute, the focal point for international teaching and research at the university.
